Construction Law
Sweetnam’s construction law practice is broad and varied. We have represented project and facility owners, design professionals, general contractors, specialty subcontractors, insurers and property managers locally, nationally and internationally. Construction law is a complex arena and for any business engaged in the construction industry it is essential to have counsel experienced in that industry.
While we have been successful in representing construction clients in court it is our philosophy that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We advocate a pro-active approach including front-end project risk management through contract formation, negotiation and definition. Through such a proactive approach on the front end, the frequency and scope of project claims can be dramatically reduced and project efficiency and profitability enhanced. We also endeavor to provide on-the-job guidance during project performance to both reduce the Client’s exposure to developing project risks and to enhance the Client’s ability to protect its rights to payment or performance in the face of changing project conditions.
Our construction industry practice includes:
Contract formation and negotiation
Contract administration in the field
Lien and bond claims
Litigation, arbitration and mediation of construction claims
Architect/Engineer design liability
